Natalia is responsible for strategic development, members, external relations and marketing. She began her career in Bulgarian National Television and has since worked in the media for more than 20 years, including ten years in the BBC World Service. Natalia holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa, Canada and the University of Kent, UK. Prior to her ABU role she worked at Thomson Foundation, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, Forward, and the AIBD, where she oversaw the development of Gender Guidelines for Asia-Pacific broadcasters.

She has been a writer since 1984 and has more than 200 books, journals and magazines being printed.

Dr Ming-Kuok LIM is the Advisor for Communication and Information for UNESCO Office in Jakarta. He has been involved in the global campaign to strengthen and raise awareness on freedom of expression, press freedom, safety of journalists and the issue of impunity. Dr. Lim is part of them team at UNESCO which supports capacity building for journalists, advises on media policy, and expanding journalism curricula to reflect the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He works with various partners to encourage youth to develop mobile apps as well as promoting the use of indigenous languages on the Internet.  He holds a PhD in Mass Communications from Penn State University (United States). He was a Fulbright Scholar as well a recipient of the Japanese Monbukagakusho Scholarship.

 

Keiko is half Japanese, half American and married to a Korean man. She lives in Asia with offices and homes in Singapore and Seoul.  This gives a good overview of her rich cultural background and involvement in Asian social and cultural development. Keiko started as a television journalist but soon felt the urge to create something of value and turned to film production. In 1995, she created Bang Productions, her own documentary company in Hong Kong and its subsidiary Bang Singapore.

 

More recently BANG Productions is changing direction to align with changing Asian social, cultural, and technological developments. Changes in programming and content have caused it to focus on its core competency of facilitating co-productions and supporting other filmmakers with their productions.

 

Nadeem is from the Maldives and was formerly with LSV Enterprise Pte Ltd. Singapore. He joined the ABU in 2008.

 

ASIA PACIFIC BROADCASTING UNION

Hamdhoon Rashad joined the ABU Programme Department in March 2016. He is a Maldivian and began his professional career with the state broadcaster Television Maldives (TVM) as a broadcast journalist. Hamdhoon has also been assigned to various mediums in different locations around the world including India, Malaysia and the US. Most recently he was working with the United Nations in Maldives as a Communication Analyst. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Broadcasting and Journalism from Malaysia.

 

Steve Ahern is an Australian radio trainer, historian and international consultant in modern broadcast media. He was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2009 for his contributions to the radio industry and education in Australia

Russell worked in Television and Radio for ITV, BBC and a number of independent production companies as a journalist, a presenter and producer of news, current affairs, documentaries and sports programmes.  I was mostly a foreign correspondent covering the conflict zones of the world between 1982 and 1996 before becoming a studio presenter and media consultant and I finally set up my own company in 1997.
